From the theatre:

Relentlessly daring playwright Wallace Shawn returns to The New Group to continue his vibrant collaboration with Scott Elliott ("Aunt Dan and Lemon," "The Fever," "Threepenny Opera").

This comedic masterpiece of marital strife recounts the day that Marie (Marisa Tomei) finally resolves to tell her charming and impossibly positive husband Bruce (Frank Whaley) that she's had enough.

The film adaptation of this play, starring Julianne Moore and Matthew Broderick, was shown at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004. It was never released theatrically, but is available on DVD.

By Gordon Cox
Marisa Tomei and Frank Whaley will topline the New Group's Off Broadway revival of Wallace Shawn's "Marie and Bruce."

Scribe's 1979 play centers on the emotional push-and-pull of a New York married couple over the course of a single day. Louise Lasser and Bob Balaban played the title roles in the show's 1980 Gotham debut at the Public, while a 2004 film adaptation starred Julianne Moore and Matthew Broderick.

Production is helmed by New Group a.d. Scott Elliott, who also directed the company's revivals of Shawn's "Aunt Dan and Lemon" and "The Fever."

Cast also includes Tina Benko, Russell G. Jones, Adam Trese and Alison Wright.

Production begins previews March 14 ahead of an April 5 opening at Theater Row.
