Photo Flash: First Look at Kathryn Erbe, Frank Langella and More in MTC's THE FATHER

THE FATHER, a new play by Molière Award winner Florian Zeller, in a translation by two-time Tony Award winner Christopher Hampton (Sunset Boulevard, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, God of Carnage), is currently in previews for an opening on Thursday, April 14, 2016 on Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street). BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

Three-time Tony Award winner Frank Langella returns to the stage in The Father, an all new Broadway production of the play which captivated Paris and London. Winner of the Molière Award, France's most prestigious honor for a new work of theater, and The Guardian's pick for Best Play of the Year.

Also starring are Tony Award nominee Kathryn Erbe ("Law & Order: Criminal Intent," The Speed of Darkness), Brian Avers (Rock 'n' Roll, The Lieutenant of Inishmore), Charles Borland (A Man for All Seasons), Drama Desk Award nominee Hannah Cabell (Pumpgirl at MTC, Grounded) and Kathleen McNenny.

Now 80 years old, André (Frank Langella) was once a tap dancer. He lives with his daughter Anne (Kathryn Erbe) and her husband Antoine. Or was he an engineer whose daughter Anne lives in London with her new lover, Pierre? The thing is, he is still wearing his pajamas, and he can't find his watch. He is starting to wonder if he's losing control.

The Father on Broadway

The Father, Kathryn's new play, opened yesterday.
The Father is a contemporary work about dealing with Alzheimer's.

Led by three-time Tony winner and Oscar nominee Frank Langella, the American premiere of Florian Zeller's The Father starts previews at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on March 22. Translated by two-time Tony and Oscar winner Christopher Hampton and helmed by Tony winner Doug Hughes, the limited engagement will officially open on April 14.

Kathleen McNenny (Enemy of the People) will replace the previously announced Liz Wisan in the role of Woman in the production, which runs through June 12. The cast also includes Tony nominee Kathryn Erbe, Brian Avers, Charles Borland and Hannah Cabell.

The Father looks inside the mind of André (Langella), a retired tap dancer living with his adult daughter Anne and her husband. Or is he a retired engineer receiving a visit from Anne who has moved away with her boyfriend? Why do strangers keep turning up in his room? And where has he left his watch?

Zeller's drama earned him a Molière Award, France's most prestigious theater honor, in 2014. The Father concludes its West End return on March 26.

The limited engagement of The Father will begin previews Tuesday, March 22, 2016. Opening night for the production will now be Thursday, April 14, 2016 on Broadway at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street).
