The 2010 NSALA DogCatemy Awards: And the Winners Are…

In its fifth year, DogCatemy Celebrity Gala has become a tradition for celebrities and their pets. Each year, artists and newsmakers create videos starring their beloved animals for this Hollywood-style award show. The categories for this year’s awards include: Best Pawformance, Best In Show, Best Tail Waggin Flick, and Best Dogumentary.

Last night, the North Shore Animal League announced their Fifth Annual DogCatemy Awards at Cipriani Wall Street in the much anticipated event at which pup loving celebrities are awarded DogCatemy Awards for videos starring their pets. This year, there were only three nominees in each of the five categories: Best Dogumentary, Best Pawformance, Best Tail-Waggin’ Film, Best Reel Life Tail and Best in Show.

And the winners were…..

Designer Sylvia Heisel, Broadway stars Orfeh and Andy Carl, designer John Bartlett, Law & Order’s Kathryn Erbe, and the New York Mets!

The most touching win of all was John Bartlett, whose video featured his rescue Tiny Tim who passed away last week after a battle with lymphoma. Tiny Tim certainly watched from heaven as his owner accepted his DogCatemy award on his behalf. It was his second win.

Although slated to appear, Beth and Howard Stern were unable to attend this year. Sandra Bernhard emceed the event, and Deborah Cox performed for the crowd. Stephen Baldwin graciously posed for photos when asked by both fans and press, while Tuffy the Mohawk Dog graced the green carpet with Deborah Cox. Other celebrities in attendance included Maria Sansone, Taylor Dayne, Josh Flitter, Brandon Hannon, Cassandra Dipietro, Joseph Gannascoli and Marc Bouwer.

During the cocktail hour preceding the ceremony, celebrity Jorge Bendersky gave grooming tips to attendees, while other experts offered Reiki, pet massage, and psychic readings, given by famous pet psychic Sonya Fitzpatrick. (According to Celebripup Bocker the Labradoodle, her reading was spot on.) We were pleasantly surprised by how congenial Orfeh and Andy Carl were as they mingled amongst guests with their Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix.

Although the event was a bit lower key than in years past, a fun time was had by pups and parents. North Shore Animal League will soon be posting videos of all the winners, and the nominees, on their site. Meanwhile, pictures from the event can be seen at the links below:

Unfortunately no pictures of Kathryn yet. Maybe we will see her in the videos.
