The world premiere of Craig Lucas' Ode to Joy, a new play about addiction, illness and love, opens Off-Broadway Feb. 27, starring Tony Award nominee Kathryn Erbe.
The production, which is presented by Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, began previews Feb. 12 at the Cherry Lane Theatre and runs through March 30.
Written and directed by Tony and Pulitzer Prize nominee Craig Lucas, the cast features Erbe ("Law & Order: Criminal Intent," Speed of Darkness), Roxanna Hope (Frost/Nixon, After The Fall) and Arliss Howard ("Moneyball," Joe Turner's Come and Gone).
Here's how the show is billed: "Ode to Joy tells the story of love, heartbreak, addiction, and illness through the eyes of Adele, an audacious painter and her destructive relations with Mala and Bill, her two lovers."

The creative team includes Andrew Boyce (set design), Catherine Zuber (costume design), Paul Whitaker (lighting design) and Daniel Kluger (sound design).
Lucas' writing credits include Prelude To A Kiss, Prayer for My Enemy and Reckless, as well as the scripts for Marry Me a Little, Songs by Stephen Sondheim, Three Postcards and The Light in the Piazza. He also penned the Broadway-aimed musical King Kong, as well as an upcoming Broadway adaptation of An American in Paris.
