Tickets to Vineyard Theatre's CHECKERS, Go on Sale Sept 24
Sunday, September 23rd marks the 60th anniversary of Richard Nixon's
political game-changing "Checkers speech," and on Monday, September 24th
at 10 a.m. tickets go on sale for the Vineyard Theatre's world-premiere production of CHECKERS, a play by Douglas McGrath about Nixon, his wife Pat and that historic speech. CHECKERS is directed by Terry Kinney.
Preview performances begin at The Vineyard (108 E. 15 St.) on October
12; October 31 is opening night. Tickets can be purchased by calling The
Vineyard box office at 212 353 0303 or online at www.vineyardtheatre.org.
The cast of CHECKERS will include Kelly Coffield Park, Kathryn Erbe (as Pat Nixon), Joel Marsh Garland, Anthony LaPaglia (as Richard Nixon) , Kevin O'Rourke, John Ottavino, Mark Shanahan, Lewis J. Stadlen and Robert Stanton.
Mr. McGrath's play CHECKERS is described, as follows: It’s 1952. A
young Richard Nixon is campaigning as his party’s candidate for
Vice-President, his wife Pat proudly at his side, when an accusation of
financial impropriety almost ends his promising career. In a momentous
speech, he takes charge of his fate, and changes the character of
American politics forever. CHECKERS is a revelatory look at Nixon’s
drive, history and most surprisingly, his marriage to Pat – all of which
are explored with insight, blistering wit and unexpected tenderness. A
stunning new play from Academy Award nominee Douglas McGrath, whose film credits include EMMA, INFAMOUS and BULLETS OVER BROADWAY. Directed by Terry Kinney (REASONS TO BE PRETTY, AFTER ASHLEY).
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the "Checkers speech" --
delivered before a national television audience on September 23, 1952 --
Chuck Todd on his "The Daily Rundown" program on MSNBC-TV on September
20, 2012 remarked that the speech "helped re-shape modern politics and
usher in the era of TV as the vehicle for political messaging…by one man
who would one day change the face of Presidential politics for good,"
going on to note how the effects of Nixon's speech are reflected in the
2012 Presidential race.

New Movie: Blood from a Stoner
See what Nantz discovered on twitter a few days ago:
Exciting news during a time of many exciting Kathryn news ;o)
I went on a little google search if there are any information about this new movie and found a short article.
BLOOD FROM A STONER
Set in Greenwich Village, the short film BLOOD FROM A STONER is
the story of a fraught lunch between a grown woman and her aging,
pot-smoking, difficult father and the waiter who brings a welcome dose
of civility to the proceedings. Its sensibility is both comic and sad
as it involves the main characters’ coming to terms with the wreckage of
the past, letting go of familial expectations and accepting what is.
BLOOD FROM A STONER was produced Off Broadway in the prestigious
Ensemble Studio Theatre's Marathon of one-act plays. Here's what people
have said:
"Jeanne Dorsey's BLOOD FROM A STONER is a sensitive and exciting play. It makes the basis for a very fine film."
- Romulus Linney, Obie Award Winning Playwright (RIP)
"BLOOD FROM A STONER depicts the fraught but deep connection that exists
between parents and their grown children. It's hilarious, heartbreaking
and exquisitely subtle. I look forward to the film version."
- Geoffrey Nauffts, Tony Nominated Playwright, Artistic Director of Naked Angels Theatre Company
"I love a script where the characters leap up off the page and have
complicated relations with each other. How does that happen? It seems
magical, but I know it isn't - it's talent and skill. That's how I feel
about BLOOD FROM A STONER. It makes me worry, weep and cheer."
- Lois Smith, Tony Nominated Actress
So Blood from a Stoner will be a theater play adaption made by the same writer/director. I also read on a few pages that the maker try to raise money for the short film project since 2011. I'm glad they will start to shoot soon. I cross my fingers for more information and joining in all the known social networks.
P.S. I'll be in vacations for the next two weeks and maybe can't update you with all the happening around Kathryn but I'll try my best.

100 Drabble - Season
Title: The last warm sun beams
Prompt: Season
Characters: Alexandra Eames/Robert Goren
Rating: K+
Word Count: 101
A/N 1: My view of the ‘he left’ comment.
A/N 2: Sorry, no time for a beta check.
Maybe
it was the last warm day of summer. The sun was still warm but the
strong wind announced the coming fall. Digging her toes into the
chilling sand, Alex leaned back and enjoyed the view over the ocean.
She was glad living back in Rockaway close to the Atlantic – the perfect balance to the new task force job.
Strong
arms wrapped around her body and Alex nuzzled even closer to Bobby’s
frame. They both smiled down the tiny bundle in her lap, still
astonished about the miracle they had made only a few months ago – happy
family in the end.

Filming SVU - 9/13
Like Blanca mentioned Kathryn should film Acceptable Loss today. Unfortunately OLV didn't mentioned anything about the SVU crew. Tuesday they had been at the Chelsea Studios. Luckily Dick Wolf twittered an on set photo two days ago.
WolfFilms Talk about a DYNAMIC DUO! Kathryn Erbe & Mariska Hargitay are shooting a scene together on the #SVU set today. pic.twitter.com/PR2oITz6
There is also a short note about Kathryn in a Warren Leight interview by Paulette Cohn - XfinityTV.com | September 12, 2012 at 5:00 PM
So you mentioned Padget Brewster and you mentioned Dean Winters and Adam Baldwin. Are there any other guest stars that you can talk about?
WL: The fourth episode has Kathryn Erbe coming to us as Alexandra Eames from “Criminal Intent.” Her character is now on a joint terrorism task force. Katie will be back later in the year at some point for sure and, I suspect, there’s room for another Dean Winters episode later on. He was pretty dynamic.

Checkers
There passed weeks without any big news about Kathryn and now every day something new. So wonderful, Kathryn will be back on stage. I like Anthony LaPaglia a lot but can't imagine him as Nixon yet. Let's wait for first rehearsal articles - toi toi toi.
Meet the Nixons: Anthony LaPaglia, Kathryn Erbe Will Star in ‘Checkers’
The
Tony Award winner Anthony LaPaglia will play Richard Nixon and Kathryn
Erbe (“Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) will play Pat Nixon in the
world premiere of Douglas McGrath’s play “Checkers” this
fall at Off Broadway’s Vineyard Theater, executives there announced on
Friday. The play, set during the 1952 presidential election, is a
character study of Nixon (then the Republican nominee for vice
president) as well as a rendering of the Nixon marriage in a moment of
crisis, as he delivered his so-called Checkers speech addressing
allegations of financial improprieties.
Mr. LaPaglia won the Tony for best actor in a play in 1998 as Eddie Carbone in that season’s Broadway revival of “A View from the Bridge”; his last stage role in New York was in the 2010 Broadway revival of “Lend Me a Tenor.” Ms. Erbe, whose television credits also include “Oz,” and who is a member of the Steppenwolf Theater Company ensemble in Chicago, was nominated for a featured Tony in 1991 for “The Speed of Darkness.”
“Checkers” will be directed by another Steppenwolf ensemble member, Terry Kinney, who is divorced from Ms. Erbe. Mr. Kinney directed the Broadway play “reasons to be pretty” in 2009.
The production’s other cast members are Kelly Coffield Park, Joel Marsh Garland, Kevin O’Rourke, John Ottovino, Mark Shanahan, Lewis J. Stadlen and Robert Stanton. The playwright, Mr. McGrath, shared an Academy Award nomination with Woody Allen for best original screenplay for their 1994 movie “Bullets Over Broadway.” Mr. McGrath also wrote and directed the 1996 film adaptation of “Emma,” which starred Gwyneth Paltrow.
“Checkers” is scheduled to begin preview performance on Oct. 12 and open on Oct. 28.
So funny that Terry Kinney will direct Checkers.

I'm excited for Kathyrn Erbe to come to SVU. What can you tell me about her visit? - Jessica
ADAM: Although Erbe's reprising her role as Detective Eames from Criminal Intent, she is now working with Homeland Security as part of a joint task force investigating terrorists. She'll meet up with Benson & Co. when the terrorists are connected to a sex-trafficking ring. Executive producer Warren Leight (who ran CI for several seasons) says he was struck by the characters' similarities. "These are two women who had long-term partnerships with difficult guys," Leight says. "These are two people who've been underestimated - who've worked just as hard, just as long -and people don't quite get how good they are." But those people will have ample opportunity to see what they've been missing: Leight promises Erbe will be back at least once later in the season.

I would love to know when they film Kathryn's episode. I assume somewhere in the next weeks. The two hour double opener episode was wrapped a few days ago and I think they are now filming the third episode. Ep #4 will be next.
P.S. yeah to at least one more SVU episode with Kathryn. It's so great to get Alex back.
