“I hope so.” Bobby’s gaze turned from the night skyline of Saigon to his partner.

“Bedtime…?” Their eyes locked and Bobby couldn’t remember if he ever had detected the golden sparkles around Alex’s pupils before. Was this an invitation?

He nodded but stepped to the door of his room. He waited before going inside until Alex slipped into her room…

…not without giving him a last glance telling him what she would like him to do.

The elevator had arrived on the 11th floor with a soft ping. The doors slid open and he could leave the narrowness. The Major Case Squad was busy like always, but there were two empty chairs – one red, the other yellow. He felt the need to stroke his old desktop.

She was alone in one of the interview rooms, completely absorbed in her work, but his gaze made her look up. Finding his eyes, she shared a warm smile with him. He wanted to meet her, but…

“Hey Goren, I have an offer for you!” his old friend guided him away.

The New Group (Scott Elliott, artistic director) held its 2011 gala on Monday, May 9 at Capitale. Kristen Johnston and Frank Whaley served as hosts.

The event, which featured live entertainment, cocktails and dinner and silent and live auctions, paid tribute to Wallace Shawn and Fred Wistow, who were honored with the Michael Mendelson Award for Outstanding Commitment to Theater.

Shawn's plays include Marie and Bruce, Aunt Dan and Lemon, The Fever, and The Designated Mourner. In 2009 he published his first book of non-fiction, Essays by Wallace Shawn. Wistow is a former member of the board for The New Group and currently serves as chairman of the Psychotherapy Network, Inc.

Christopher Sieber and Lucas Steele performed at the gala, while guests included Matthew Broderick, Bobby Cannavale, Kathryn Erbe, Katie Finneran, Darren Goldstein, Marin Ireland, Natasha Lyonne, Matthew Modine, Devin Ratray, Grant Shaud, and Reshma Shetty.

Back from Paris to Mother's House

I’m back from Paris. It was a great but exhausting trip. Vacation photos will follow later the week. Now I finally want to publish the entire new exciting Mother’s House news.

As I opened the letterbox yesterday I also got a big envelope of Peak Road Productions. I reacted like: woah, what is inside? Ingrid was so kind to send me the Mother’s House Press Kit – CD. The producers add this item with biographies of cast and crew, poster, trailer and more to all festival requests. So kind that they also think about me.

Maybe you saw on the MH facebook page the first festival acceptances. Mother’s House will be screened in June at:

Ingrid also told me that their little masterpiece is accepted at LIFF 28th Season (International Long Island Film Festival). I couldn’t find any more information yet.

Chris Washington published his interview with John Cohoe the real owner of Mother’s House.

1. What was your first thought when the producers asked if they could use your house for the movie?

“My first thought was, are you kidding? Then, after thinking about it I thought it might be kind of cool.”

2. Was it weird for you to see a ton of crew members working in your house?

“In a way, yes. I wondered if the systems, like septic, electric etc. were up to the task. And there was no lawn after the shooting. It’s growing back now.”

3. Out of all the rooms in the house, which one is considered to be your favorite?

“My favorite room, my toy room, was not used in the movie. I go into it to play with my collection, much the same way Tom did in his room in the movie.”

4. Has this movie made you look at your house in a different way?

“Yes. The rooms that were used in the shooting were repainted to our specifications. A good thing. I know our 1860 house has stories to tell, and I occasionally hear some of them from old timers in the area.”

5. Would you like your house to be used again in a movie?

“Sure. What’s in it for me? :)”
