Woodstock Film Festival 2011 Launch Party in NYC

By Deborah Medenbach
Hurricane Irene didn’t stop filmmakers from streaming down to the Lower East Side in NYC on Aug. 30 for the Woodstock Film Festival Launch Party. Squeezing in the front door, I was whisked up to the balcony for a quick chat with the director, writer, and two principal actors from “Coming Up Roses.”...

Reporting Live from the 2011 WFF Launch Party at Libation in NYC! Kathryn Erbe ("Mother's House" and "Law and Order") is here with Academy Award Winner Melissa Leo ("The Sea is All I know" and "The Fighter") among other 2011 Festival Participants!

...The party continued with a conversation with first time filmmaker Davis Hall of Stone Ridge about his short narrative “Mother’s House,” starring Kathryn Erbe; a viewing of the engineering wonderfilm “A Bridge Delivered” by Stephen Mallon; receiving an overview of “Taking a Chance on God” produced by High Falls resident Ilene Cutler; and meeting short film “Bang” director Holle Singer. More about these in future posts.

The festival’s schedule for Sept. 21-25 and tickets are now available online at www.woodstockfilmfestival.com.

“Mother’s House” and Stone Ridge’s Davis Hall

Most Ulster county live theater fans know Davis Hall from his acting performances with Actors & Writers in Rosendale. His experiences cleaning out his mother’s house after her death a couple of years ago spurred his new venture into filmmaking, writing and directing “Mother’s House.”

“It was shot in nine days in Stone Ridge at a house near where I live,” Hall said. “The story is about a couple coming to clear out a dead parent’s house. It brings what’s real and what’s memory into question.”

Kathryn Erbe, known for her role as Det. Alexandra Eames on the TV show “Law & Order,” welcomed the lead role alongside Tim Guinee in this 30-minute film.

“It’s a moving thing to care about someone and go through their things,” Erbe said. Davis described finding his parent’s World War II love letters and wondering if it was crossing a boundary to read them. The act of sorting personal effects often gives deeper insight into who they were and facets of their personality that might have been kept hidden.

“Could you ever allow someone to freely go through all of your belongings while you were still alive and accountable?” I asked.

Both conceded some stories can only be told when you’re dead.

“Mother’s House” has its New York Premiere at the Woodstock Film Festival.

Write a Post Help a Dog Campaign 2011

BlogPaws the Conference for Pet Bloggers, Pet Brands, and Pet Health Care Professionals is only a day away now and in honor of the occasion Pedigree has decided to launch a Write a Post, Help a Dog Campaign. For those of you who missed the event last year in September 391 bloggers wrote about the program and with each post, Pedigree donated 20 pounds of its Healthy Longevity dog food to shelter animals. In all, 7,820 pounds of food was donated to two shelters known across the country for their dedication to the care and re-homing of senior dogs: Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco and Castaway Critters in Harrisburg, Pa.

How you can help in 2011

Simply spread the word about Write a Post, Help a Dog 2011 and once again Pedigree will donate 20 pounds of food for each blog post. If you don’t have a blog feel free to tweet about the campaign or share on Facebook so your friends who do blog can participate. All bloggers are welcome even if you do not generally talk about pets on your blog. Its all about using Social Media for Social Good.

Here’s how it works:
  • The Write a Post, Help a Dog program is aimed at raising awareness of the more then 4 million dogs that wind up in shelters and breed rescues each year. As well as to help get them all food (our goal is 10,000 lbs of food in the next two weeks) for the more than four million dogs that wind up in shelters and breed rescues each year.
  • For each blog post mentioning the Pedigree Foundation from now until midnight ET on September 3, Pedigree will donate 20 pounds of its new dry Pedigree recipe food for dogs — its best recipe ever — to a shelter, because every dog deserves leading nutrition.
  • Feel free to make your post more visually appealing by using either or both of the two images seen in this post.
  • The Pedigree Foundation — a 501 (C)(3) nonprofit organization is committed to helping dogs by providing grants to shelters and rescues and encouraging dog adoption. This year the Foundation has already raised more than $376,570 against its goal of $1.5 million to carry out its work to fund grants that not only help shelters operate, but to further shelter innovations.
This is a Blog Hop! 90 entries so far... you can be next!

P.S. I'll be in my summer vacations for the next two weeks. I'll be back from Italy at 17th September. We'll read us...

Legs

Nantz posted on her Vinni Vidi Vici blog a short article/poll by Cynthia Nellis August 24, 2011. Why my Kathryn Erbe google alert or other article sources didn’t inform me? Thanks my friend for finding.

POLL: Do dressy shorts work after 45?
Short shorts are appearing on red carpet after 40. Thoughts?

Dressy shorts (shorts worn for more formal events like parties and red carpet events) started popping up last year. There were shorts with tights. Leather shorts. Even lace shorts.
As an alternative to the miniskirt, dressy shorts even seem like a fresh way to dress for events in a way that's young and fresh.

The question: are dressy shorts to young for grown-ups?

At a recent event actress 40-something Kathryn Erbe wore an all-black ensemble with short shorts. And 50-something socialite Helen Lee Schifter wore an all-white shorts look.
Both women undoubtedly have the legs (and overall figure) to wear dressy shorts.

But is this a look that works after 45? Share your thoughts!

Too Old to Wear Dressy Shorts?

Go to the poll

First of all it was/is a very HOT summer in the US plus there is only one answer when looking at the following slide show:

Kathryn looking great in mini skirt and dressy short. Both can be elegant, sportive or casual.

100 Drabble - Storm

Title: Dinner in the Dark
Prompt: Storm
Characters: Alexandra Eames and Robert Goren
Rating: T
Word Count: 103

“Come in, you’re getting totally soaked,” Alex shouted, as Bobby reached her porch. She passed him a towel and reached for the water bottles he carried. “Did the Mustang fit into the garage?”

“Yes,” Bobby replied, and rubbed his head. “There was enough space next to your car.” He followed Alex into the kitchen, peeking into the dining room at the delicious meal on the table. “Thanks for letting me stay with you after Greenpoint was declared an evacuation zone.”

“You’re welcome,” Alex whispered as they lose power and darkness swallowed everything beside the booming storm.

“I…I think we’ll have a candlelit dinner.”

Fabulous Film Festival Fall

If you follow the Kathryn 2010 to 2011 or Current Movie Project section here at my blog you already know that Mother’s House will be shown in several film festivals in the next months.

Try to catch one of the events (exact dates will be published the next days) and watch Mother’s House! The movie is worth to start being a film festival visitor.

September 21-25 - the 12th annual Woodstock Film Festival [New York]
October 06-09 - Louisville's International Festival of Film (LIFF) [Kentucky]
October 20-23 - Mother's House at Ojai Film Festival [California]

When you’re not close enough to one of these three places, I know there will be even more film festivals to catch the movie. Just check the MH facebook wall or the homepage and you’re up to date.

August 19th there also popped up the news that the wonderful film of Ingrid Price and Davis Hall won the 2011 Silver Colorado Film Award.

2011 Colorado Film Festival Announces Award Winners: Colorado Film Award - Silver is awarded to Mother's House (USA) directed by Davis Hall. While emptying his late mother's rural home, Thomas and his wife, Catherine, discover increasingly disturbing secrets until the conflict between memory and truth threatens to destroy them both.

Congratulation even when I couldn’t find any information about this organization. I think even the MH team didn’t know for sure. See their kickstarter entry:

Dear Kickstarters,
We're not sure what the "Silver Colorado Film Award" is, but we're mighty proud that Mother's House won it!
Go, Team, go!

Chris Washington posted the second part of the One Year Later clip. I think you can catch a glimpse of Kathryn when filming the car scene. But I’m not sure. Enjoy Tim dancing on the wire.

There are no more news about Kathryn’s other movies beside one tweet of Richard Tanne after a question of Nantz.
